Przemysław Dębiak, an elite Polish programmer known by his handle “Psycho,” won first place at the AtCoder World Tour Finals. The competition was a special “Human vs. AI” showdown sponsored by OpenAI.
The event lasted for ten intense hours. Contestants were given a complex optimisation problem that required not just coding skill, but also creative, out-of-the-box thinking. Dębiak, who is a former employee of OpenAI, competed against a sophisticated AI tool designed by his previous company.
Dębiak received a prize of 500,000 Japanese Yen, which is about $3400. After the results were announced he tweeted “Humanity has prevailed (for now!).” OpenAI CEO Sam Altman congratulated him on his win.
